6-course descant lute by Lawrence K. Brown (Ashville, NC: 1985). 9 rib cherry wood back, maple neck and pegbox, ebony fingerboard, ebony capped bridge, and rosewood pegs and strap button. 44 cm mensur is suitable for tuning in c or d.
Currently fretted in 1/6 comma meantone temperament. Ebony tastino on the 1st fret under the 4th and 5th courses.
Stringing is currently a combination of Aquila Nylgut (1st, 2nd, and 3rd courses, plus octaves on 4th , 5th, and a6th courses) and gut (4th, 5th, and 6th course bourdons).
This instrument is useful for playing 4th or 5th apart duets. I played it rather extensively in the past, but it has spent almost the last decade unused. It's time for it to find a new home!
Lute comes with a custom crushed-velvet-lined wooden case (with accessory compartment), a variety of spare strings (Aquila Nylgut and Pyramid), and string schedule.
